For the first time the State Cooperative Election Commission conducted the election of Members to the Committees of Cooperative Societies commencing from January 2015 followed by election of President and Vice-President of the committees. The election was conducted in four phases.
In the first phase 7073 Nos. of Primary Cooperative Societies were programmed for election on two dates i.e. 18.01.2015 and 25.01.2015. Out of which the election of 6507 Primary Cooperative Societies were completed. Due to various reasons like non-availability of eligible voters, non-filing of nomination etc. the election of 566 Primary Cooperative Societies could not be completed.
Subsequently, elections to 370 nos. of left out primary societies were held on 29.05.2016, 05.06.2016 & 12.06.2016.
In the second phase 132 nos. of Central Cooperative Societies were programmed for election on 12.04.2015 , 19.04.2015 and 28.02.2016. Out of which election of 125 nos. of Central Societies was completed. The election of the rest 7 (seven) nos. of Societies could not be completed due to non filing of nomination, non- availability of records, non-preparation of provisional electoral roll etc.
In the third phase Elections of 17 nos. of Apex Cooperative Societies were held on 12.07.2015. The election of the 2(two) nos. of Apex Societies could not be completed due to non functioning of the Society.
The election of the State Cooperative Union and Odisha Backward Classes Finance & Development Co-operative Corporation Ltd., Bhubaneswar were conducted on 11.10.2015.
